Babe, it’s not you, it’s me.

Hello again!

I’m back with another blog post! If you missed yesterday’s one, catch up now – Click here

Let’s get into today’s post.

Relationships are the most fascinating things. Building them takes time, commitment and a whole lot of love. 😍 Your soul is determined and your emotions are tested. You just want to learn about this person and give 110% of yourself to them.

*Story time*

It has been months of skipping class, postponing coursework and taking yourself on shopping trips, just to impress this person. You are head over heals ‘in love’ and can’t wait to spend every moment with them. Days turn to nights and nights turn to deep desire. You said to yourself that you wouldn’t. You wouldn’t give your body over but you felt your temperature rising and your pulse increasing. You couldn’t resist and now bound by that decision you made, sinking deeply into the sand of desire, lust has completely taken over.

After a long while, you realise something. That moment: when you suddenly accept that you can’t do it anymore. You want out and start saying to yourself:

Babe, it’s not you, it’s me

That ever so quiet voice that catches your attention from within, and completely shuts you down. For that moment, you freeze in reflection and attempt to justify why and how you got involved in the first place and why you allowed yourself to slip.

You have been convicted. You have been reminded. Reminded that you are a Child of God, purchased by the blood of Jesus. It’s frustrating because you already know this but now you KNOW.

Holding your phone, you whisper to yourself.

Yes. It’s time to have that conversation.

Scrolling through Instagram and reminiscing on the moments you shared, you begin to go over in your head what you’re going to say. There is no time. You need to get this off your chest now. Quickly. You want freedom. Freedom from guilt and sin! You want to shut this down.

You hear the dialling tone, and they answer,

Hi, it’s been a while…

It comes out like vomit, you can’t control your words,

Babe, it’s not you, it’s me! It’s always been me. I’m sorry for this. I can’t do it. It’s not you, it’s me.

I’ve been in denial and realised, we can’t do this anymore. When I decided to become a christian, I decided to leave the old me behind. I’m a new creation. I’m a child of God. This sin that I’ve involved myself in is not pleasing to my God. It’s not you it’s me. Sorry.

You cut the line.

*Story Ends*

I think many people can relate to this. It’s a common one. But one has to hold on to their salvation and cling on to Jesus. Your time will come. Marriage will come. Until then, keep yourself. Keep your dignity, if they believe that you are their future, they will wait.

In the words of Matthew, Chapter 5 –

And if your right hand causes you to stumble, cut it off and throw it away…
